University Professor (all genders)

Specialist field of Engineering Hydrology and Water Resources Management

TU Wien is Austria's largest institution of research and higher education in the fields of technology and natural sciences. With over 26,000 students and more than 4000 scientists, research, teaching, and learning dedicated to the advancement of science and technology have been conducted here for more than 200 years, guided by the motto "Technology for People". As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.

At the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor (all genders) in the field of Engineering Hydrology and Water Resources Management with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of October 2026.

This is a professorship regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).

The position as professor for Engineering Hydrology and Water Resources Management has been allocated in TU Wien's development plan to the following TU Focal Areas of Research: Energy & Environment, Additional Fields of Research.

The professorship's research focuses on hydrological processes and hydrological extremes (floods, droughts), taking into account climate change and changes in land use, from small research catchments to the global scale. Mathematical models of the water cycle are developed, in particular to determine the available water supply and extreme events in surface waters and groundwater. Ecological, economic and social aspects are incorporated into the modelling of catchments in order to enable sustainable planning and management of water systems. The continuation of the HOAL (Hydrological Open Air Laboratory) is expected for the collection of data, validation of models and process studies.

In addition, the tasks include teaching (in German and English) in Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes as well as participation in the management of the institute and the faculty.
