University Assistant Prae-Doc (all genders)

30 hours/week | limited to 4 years

The Institute of Chemical, Environmental and Bioscience Engineering at TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) for 30 hours/week limited to expected 4 years (tentative start date June 2026) under the supervision of Prof. Georg Pesch.

The position is within the Research Unit Mechanical Process Engineering and Clean Air Technology. The research focuses on electrokinetic methods for separating mixtures of inorganic particles, with a particular emphasis on electronic waste. The goal is to increase the efficiency of electrokinetic separators through a combination of simulations and experiments.

Tasks:

  • Collaboration on research and teaching tasks as well as examinations
  • Further development and investigation of a process for the electrokinetic separation of micron-scale inorganic particles
  • Research and project activities
  • Supervision of students and bachelor/master theses
  • Writing of scientific publications and a dissertation
  • Participation in scientific events (conferences, symposia, etc.)
  • Participation in organisational and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master’s or diploma degree in process engineering, mechanical engineering, or a comparable engineering discipline
  • Very good theoretical foundations in chemical engineering combined with practical skills both in the laboratory and in simulation
  • A strong interest in fundamental engineering research linked to relevant application areas
  • Experience in laboratory work and in computer-aided simulations (FVM, FEM, …)
  • Interest in the development of novel methods
  • Very good command of English (at least B2), German level of at least B1 is beneficial
  • An independent and solution-oriented working style, as well as strong teamwork and communication skills

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
