University Assistant Post-Doc (all genders)

At the Institute of Information Systems Engineering, in the Research Unit of Distributed Systems TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (post-doc) limited to expected 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: May 2026.
Tasks:
- Independent teaching and supervision of students (MSc & BSc)
- Independent and cooperative research that advances the fields of service-oriented computing and distributed processing. Publications in top tier venues are expected.
- Assisting in supervision of PhD. students
- Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty.
Your profile:
We seek candidates with strong scientific achievements and a proven track record in Distributed Systems, Edge Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Ideally, candidates are experienced in the development and optimization of heterogeneous computing systems, or possess a skillset that supports this direction. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to bridge high-level architectural concepts with practical implementation, supported by a history of international scientific cooperation. Excellent communication and writing skills in both German and English are required, along with a clear motivation for goal-oriented, independent research and the leadership of interdisciplinary initiatives.
More specifically:
- PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field (with a focus on Distributed Systems, Edge Computing, or Software Engineering)
- Professional experience with the development and operation of modern distributed systems (containerization, microservice architectures, version control, etc)
- Experience with fundamental machine-learning paradigms for optimizing hardware and software operation, preferably in multi-objective environments
- Experience with developing and monitoring computing systems; preferably both on Edge and Cloud systems, working towards Continuum architectures
- Teaching in German and English is expected

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 5,014.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
