At the Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics, in the Research Group for Mass Spectrometric Bio and Polymer Analytics (E164-01-1), TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: April 2026.
Focus – Imaging Mass Spectrometry and Omics Technologies:
- Collaboration on research tasks aimed at applying imaging mass spectrometry (MSI) as a surface analysis method
- Focus on matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI)
- Correlative Imaging - Development of innovative combinations of MALDI MSI with complementary imaging methods (e.g., AFM, IR/Raman, EM, fluorescence microscopy, and many more)
- Application to biological material for research questions in the field of medicine and biomedical engineering
Tasks:
- Participation in associated research projects
- Supervision of students in laboratory exercises of the bachelor and master degree in German and partially in English (technical chemistry, biomedical engineering)
- Participation in other teaching tasks in German and English (seminars, lectures, and exams)
- Deepen scientific knowledge
- Participation in scientific events
- Writing a dissertation and publications
- Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research group
Your profile:
- Completion of a master's or diploma course in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, physics, pharmacy or an equivalent degree at home or abroad
- Excellent knowledge of analytical chemistry
- Hands-on experience in the field of mass spectrometry
- Knowledge of data processing for protein, lipid and/or metabolite analysis
- Experience in dealing with biological samples
- A basic understanding of statistical data analysis
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Excellent command of German and English (C level)
- Interest in research in the field and in working with students
It is also advantageous if you have:
- Experience in imaging technologies relevant for biological material (e.g. confocal microscopy)
- The ability to publish research results in specialist journals and at conferences
- Didactic skills

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
