Senior Scientist (all genders)
32 hours/week | indefinite-term
At the Institute of Information Systems Engineering, in the Research Unit of Software Engineering of the Faculty of Informatics TU Wien is offering a position as Senior Scientist (all genders) for the specialist field of “Software and Systems Engineering” for 32 hours/week. Expected start: January 2026
Software-intensive systems are key in the modern world. It is, therefore, critical that we investigate principles and techniques that facilitate the design, development, analysis, effectiveness, automation, maintenance, and understandability of such systems. Today, software is part of any relevant system, and thus, the interplay of software engineering and systems engineering becomes a must. Software and Systems Engineering covers the whole life cycle of software-intensive systems.
Tasks:
The faculty seeks to hire a candidate with a strong research and teaching record in constructive aspects of Software and Systems Engineering. Desired areas of research and expertise may include but are not limited to:
- Reuse and variability modeling for configurable and adaptable software systems, enabling systematic reuse across domains and lifecycle phases
- Software and system product line engineering focusing on integration, evolution, and governance of product line ecosystems across organizational and technological boundaries
- Multi-domain modeling and systems integration, supporting the engineering of complex systems across software and other domains, e.g., Cyber-Physical (Production) Systems, addressing challenges of scalability, interoperability, and evolution
- Empirical and data-driven software engineering, leveraging industrial data and model repositories, for evidence-based improvement of engineering processes
- Software testing, analysis, and evolution, emphasizing automation, variability-aware techniques, and empirical validation
- Secure, reliable, and responsible software engineering, ensuring compliance with technical and ethical requirements in multi-domain and software-intensive systems
- Software engineering for emerging systems engineering paradigms
Besides research, the duties of a Senior Scientist at TU Wien include undergraduate and graduate teaching (in German and English) as well as faculty service tasks.
