University Assistant (all genders) - Phd Position

40 hours/week | limited to 4 years

At the Institute of Sensor and Actuator Systems, in the Research Unit of Micro- and Nanosensors TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (PhD student) limited to expected 4 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: May 2025.

Tasks:

  • Conduct research in the field of micro- and nanosensors, with a particular focus on nanomechanical systems; Potential sensor applications include environmental monitoring (nanoplastics, ultrafine aerosols, PFAS, etc) and analysis of nanopharmaceuticals and bio-nanoparticles
  • Contribute to teaching activities, including supporting courses and mentoring students
  • Supervise and collaborate with students in research projects and laboratory work
  • Write and publish scientific papers and complete a PhD dissertation
  • Participate in scientific conferences, workshops, and events to present research findings and engage with the academic community

Your profile:

  • Educational Background: Master’s or Diploma degree in physics, electrical engineering, nanotechnology, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field
  • Research Skills: Strong ability to conduct independent, methodical, and responsible research
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Motivation: Passion for research and innovation, with an interest in both scientific discovery and practical applications
  • Collaboration & Supervision: Enthusiasm for working in a team, mentoring students, and contributing to a dynamic research environment
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work creatively and collaboratively

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 3,714.80/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
