Project Manager (all genders) Research Data Management

Part-time (25 hours/week) | limited with the option to extend

The Center for Research Data Management at TU Wien is seeking a Project Manager (all genders) Research Data Management for the open-source product DAMAP. DAMAP supports researchers in Austria and internationally in the structured planning, management, and reuse of research data and software throughout the entire research data lifecycle and contributes to meeting funding agency requirements through standardized, agency-specific data management plans.

In this position, you will be responsible for the further development and operation of the DAMAP service. You will actively shape DAMAP as a cloud-based shared service, contribute to governance and sustainability models, and serve as an interface between technical development teams, institutional partners, and external stakeholders at the national and international levels. The position is limited to expected December 31st, 2027 with the option to extend.

Tasks:

  • Development, implementation, and continuous active contribution to the operational and conceptual advancement of the DAMAP service as a sustainable shared service
  • Management and coordination of onboarding processes for new institutional partners, including alignment of technical and organizational requirements
  • Ensuring and taking professional responsibility for service and open-source documentation, including user manuals, FAQs, technical overviews, as well as integration and governance documents
  • Ensuring that documentation follows best practices for open-source software and research infrastructures and is continuously aligned with service and software development
  • Optimization and further development of systematic collection, evaluation, and prioritization of user feedback, as well as communication of service-related requirements to project and technical management
  • Independent planning, organization, and content management of workshops, webinars, training sessions, and community meetings
  • Representation of DAMAP in national and international networks, conferences, and working groups (e.g., in the context of EOSC initiatives), and serving as the central service-related contact person for consortium partners regarding roles, responsibilities, governance structures, and processes
  • Establishment, support, and development of an active user and partner community in cooperation with research service and IT units at Austrian research institutions, as well as acting as an interface between technical development teams and non-technical stakeholders, including translation of requirements, priorities, and constraints
  • Coordination and curation of service-related content (website, onboarding information, community news) in close alignment with development and service releases, as well as preparation, negotiation, and ongoing management of consortium agreements in collaboration with legal and administrative bodies, including participation in financial and sustainability planning at the service level, without direct accounting responsibility

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree, technical education (HTL, FH), or relevant professional experience
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to clearly and effectively convey ideas, requirements, and project progress to stakeholders, developers, and the Product Owner
  • Organizational skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate schedules, and ensure efficient project execution
  • Understanding of agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban, including knowledge of iterative development, sprint planning, and backlog management
  • Strong presentation skills: Ability to create engaging and informative presentations to convey project updates, product features, and added value to diverse audiences—including developers, management, and potential users
  • Documentation and writing skills: Ability to create clear, comprehensive, and user-friendly technical documentation that helps developers, users, and other stakeholders understand and effectively use the software
  • Excellent written and spoken German and English

Entry level salary is determined by the level IVA of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,156.40/month gross, 14 times/year for 25 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
