University Assistant Prae-Doc (all genders)

At the Institute of Materials Chemistry, in the Research Group for Technical Catalysis TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: May 2026.

In the research group, we develop and investigate heterogeneous catalysts with a focus on high selectivity and stability for the utilization of CO2 from various exhaust gas streams. The focus is on innovative materials developed by combining sulfides and oxides. Fundamental questions, such as the reaction mechanisms at the surface, shall be investigated.  

Tasks:

  • Collaboration on research and teaching tasks as well as examinations
  • Cooperation and guidance of students
  • Research and project activity:
    • Catalyst synthesis and characterization
    • Performance of catalytic and mechanistic studies on catalysts
  • Improvement and maintenance of experimental setups
  • Writing a dissertation and publications
  • Participation in scientific events
  • Assistance/Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks
  • Contribute to the activities of the research group

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master or diploma curriculum in one of these fields: (technical) chemistry, materials science, physics, or related
  • Skillful and responsible in experimental work
  • Lab experience in catalysis, materials characterization (e.g., XRD, electron microscopy), spectroscopy (e.g., IR, XPS), and physical chemistry is an advantage
  • Very good skills in English communication and writing (minimum B2 level); German is an advantage
  • Interest in research in the field, as well as supervision and work with students
  • Very good communicative skills and innovative ability
  • Strong team spirit and enthusiasm for collaboration in an international research group
  • Structured, reliable, and independent working style. Willingness to engage with new topics and methodologies

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
