At the Atominstitut, in the Research Unit of Quantum Metrology TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant prae-doc all genders limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: January 2026.
Tasks:
- Contribution to ongoing research projects and preparation of project-related deliverables
- Experimental research in levitated optomechanics, with a focus on developing tweezer arrays of levitated nanoparticles for studying collective phenomena
- Writing and publishing of a dissertation and scientific articles
- Active participation in teaching activities, including assistance with courses, examinations, and supervision of students
- Writing of a doctoral dissertation and scientific publications
- Participation in national and international scientific events, workshops, and conferences
- Involvement in organizational, administrative, and coordination tasks within the research group and institute
Your profile:
- Completed Master’s or equivalent degree (e.g., Diploma) in Physics or Engineering
- Advanced knowledge in working on optical setups and optical levitation
- Prior contact with experiments is highly appreciated
- Strong interest and enthusiasm for experimental research
- Good spoken and written communication skills in English
- Excellent teamwork abilities and collaborative mindset. High motivation, reliability, and independent work ethic. Goal-oriented, structured, and methodical approach to scientific work
- Interest in outreach, teaching assistance, or mentoring undergraduate students

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,786.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
