Senior Scientist (all genders)

40 hours/week | limited to 4 year with the option to extend

At the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing, TU Wien is offering a position as senior scientist (all genders) for 40 hours/week. Expected start: March 2026. The position is limited to expected 4 years with the option to extend.

Tasks:

  • Independent research activities in the field of Applied Mathematics that suitably complement the existing expertise at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing
  • Teaching duties in mathematics, both in specialized and service courses, in particular, service lectures in mathematics for Technical Physics, Electrical Engineering, and/or Geodesy and Geoinformation, as well as participation in and administration of examinations
  • Supervision of students and subject-related theses
  • Active and visible engagement in research and publications
  • Willingness to cooperate with colleagues at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing
  • Participation in and organization of scientific events
  • Contribution to organizational and administrative tasks as well as evaluation measures of the research division and the faculty
  • Since the basic teaching at TU Wien is conducted in German, the successful candidate must acquire and demonstrate sufficient language proficiency within 18 months to be able to teach in German after this period

Your profile:

  • Completion of an appropriate doctorate in the field of Mathematics or a closely related discipline
  • Proven knowledge of scientific research methods and excellent expertise in a current research area of Applied Mathematics
  • Active publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
  • Teaching experience (ideally with evidence of positive evaluations by students)
  • Interest in intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly within the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing (to be demonstrated in the application materials)
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills as well as a well-structured working style
  • Excellent command of English
  • Genuine interest and enthusiasm for research and for working with students
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and strong problem-solving skills

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 4,932.90/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
