System administrator (all genders) Windows or Linux with focus on VDI

Full-time or Part-time from 30 hours/week | unlimited

The central campus IT department at TU Wien is looking to fill a position in the products division as a system administrator (all genders) Windows or Linux with focus on VDI, expected to start in September 2025 (40 hours/week or part-time from 30 hours/week, unlimited) with the following responsibilities.

Tasks:

  • Operation and maintenance of our VMware and Omnissa Horizon VDI environment (user and rights management, patch/release management)
  • Collaboration on security checks and automation of recurring processes (PowerShell/Bash), in line with your level of experience
  • Proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of our VDI and backend systems, as well as analysis
  • Routine maintenance of our thin client fleet (updates, device replacement)
  • Creation of system documentation and short user guides
  • Testing of new configurations in our lab environment
  • Collaboration with internal specialist departments and direct sparring with the senior admin
  • Active further training in areas relevant to VDI

 

Your profile:

  • Completed secondary education or IT apprenticeship (initial professional experience an advantage)
  • Basic knowledge of Linux or Windows system administration
  • Basic knowledge of IT security and monitoring is an advantage
  • Initial experience with Omnissa Horizon or remote desktop services is an advantage
  • Interest in virtualisation technologies and willingness to learn new things
  • Very good German or English skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Accuracy in implementation and documentation
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Entry level salary is determined by the level IVA of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 3,390.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
