Assistant Professorship (all genders) - Tenure Track
“Intelligent Mobile Communication Systems”
At the Institute of Telecommunications, TU Wien is offering the following tenure track position for 40 hours/week. Expected start: June 2025.
The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement).
The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Telecommunications. Duties include research and teaching in the field of Wireless Communications. The focus of research should be in the field of Intelligent Mobile Communication Systems. The successful applicant shall expand current research activities at the institute and establish an internationally visible research group in this field.
Tasks:
Research:
- Methodical and theoretical research in the optimization of Mobile Communication Systems based on operational data and radio network performance data
- Specific applications with a focus on 4th, 5th and 6th generation mobile communication systems
- Practical implementation of algorithms in experimental setups based on operational mobile communication systems
- Securing third-party funding through research projects
Teaching:
- Mandatory and elective courses (lectures, exercises, labs) in the field of Wireless Communications in general, as well as specifically on Mobile Communication Systems. It is noted that the bachelor's degree programs at TU Wien are currently taught in German, requiring the corresponding language proficiency
- Supervision and Co-supervision of scientific research projects (Bachelor, Master and PhD theses)
Administrative:
- Taking on general administrative tasks within the research unit
- Engagement in university committees
- Establishing and leading an independent research group
Your profile:
- A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with doctorate appropriate to the position and proficiency in German and English
- Proven expertise in the Mobile Communications with a focus on Data-driven Optimization
- Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
- Experience in academic teaching (classes)
- Supervision and co-supervision of academic theses
- Experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
- Comprehensive experience with successfully securing large-volume external funding as a principal investigator
- Experience abroad in the context of research stays is desirable
- Leadership and social competence

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 4,932.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 5,808.20 gross (14 x per year).
